Butterfly Release
“Whisper Your Wish to a Butterfly” is the name of our Community Nurses Annual Butterfly Release event to benefit Hospice. The event is held each year in August at the Serenity Garden on the campus of Elk Regional Health Center. Our 2011 Butterfly Release was held on Sunday, August 7 at 4 p.m. under a beautiful sunny sky.
Members of the community can purchase a butterfly each in memory or in honor of a loved one. To purchase a butterfly download our order form and return to our Community Nurses office. Butterfly Release Order Form
The Butterfly Release includes a celebration of life service, inspirational readings and music, reading of loved ones’ names, and light refreshments. The attendees release their butterfly at the ceremony to memorialize or honor their loved one. If those who purchase a butterfly are unable to attend, a Community Nurses staff member will release their butterfly for them. All are invited to attend whether or not you are able to purchase a butterfly.

The name of the event, “Whisper Your Wish to a Butterfly,” comes from a Native American legend which states that the Great Spirit created butterflies as a gift to His human children. If anyone wants a wish to come true, they must first capture a butterfly and whisper a wish to it. Since a butterfly cannot make a sound, they can only reveal the wish to the Great Spirit who hears and sees all. The legend goes that by releasing the butterfly, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted.
The butterfly release is a meaningful event enjoyed by many community residents.

Thousands of books were donated and then sold to avid readers to benefit Community Nurses Hospice. We look forward to our 2012 book sale!
